So, this is new. For once, I’ve got some good news. Well, sort of. And it’s utterly unrelated to Fin or Noah. I’m excited to have something different to talk about.

After the mess of the family vote, I wasn’t surprised when Fin didn’t turn up here today. It was undoubtedly the smartest decision, but I wasn’t looking forwards to another night on my own. Mum was working. Glen was at Jonty’s. I was with Noah. If that counts for anything.

But at just gone eight, there was a knock at the door

“I thought you might want some company,” Collina said, standing on the doorstep. “I don’t know much about girly evenings, but I’ve heard that films are required, so I brought a few.”

She lifted her arms to display the stack of DVDs she was holding.

“We don’t actually own a DVD player,” I said, feeling incredibly guilty she’d gone to so much trouble and a little worried that she might snap. Instead, she just flipped up the lid of our black bin with one finger and dropped the entire pile into it, then came inside.

“I guess it’ll just have to be girly chatting time then,” she replied.

“Or we could stream something?”

As it happened, there were a couple of films I fancied watching, but we never got round to pressing play, as we were too busy talking. Talking about Collina, for once.

“How old are you, exactly?” I asked, sitting on the sofa with my feet curled up under me.

She’d also brought us a blood bag each. My first thought had been to refuse, given that I didn’t know where they’d come from. But if she really wanted to hurt me, she had plenty of other ways to go about it so … what the hell?

“I was turned in the fifteen hundreds.”

“The fifteen hundreds? As in, over five hundred years ago?”

“Five hundred and forty-two years, to be exact,” she said. “And I remember each and every one of them. Some were more interesting than others. Some were good. Some … not so much.”

“That’s incredible.”

“You could say that.”

Five hundred years?? How insane is that? I mean, imagine how much you’d see if you lived for that long. Questions were buzzing around my head, but it felt wrong wanting to pry. At the same time, when it comes to being nosey, Collina is the queen. And I’m not just saying that because she’d read my blog. Let’s not forget how she kept tabs on me while manipulating my mum into giving her my venom. And then there was the whole marrying Fin thing. As such, any feelings of guilt were quickly outweighed by curiosity.

“Can you tell me how it happened? If you’re okay with that. I get it’s probably difficult.”

“Talking about how I was changed? No, it’s not. It was a good thing. I knew the woman who turned me when I was still human. I was like you, sick, and she took me in. In fact, I was worse than you.
